The Application Of Organic Pigments in Powder Coatings Must Meet The 5 Requirements!
Powder coating is a new type of solvent-free 100% solid powder coating, which is composed of solvent-free, pollution-free, recyclable, environmentally friendly, resource saving, reduced labor intensity, and high mechanical strength of the coating film. With the strengthening of environmental protection awareness in various countries, powder coating has the advantages of economy, efficiency, environmental protection, and energy conservation, known as 4E, and has been rapidly developed.
Pigments, as one of the main raw materials of organic pigments, endow coatings with colorful colors and improve the mechanical and chemical properties of coatings.
Based on the different chemical structures of film-forming resins in powder coatings, most of them belong to low polarity or non-polar polymers. Choosing organic pigments as colorants for powder coatings has similar requirements to those used for coloring polymer plastics, and should have the following main characteristics:
1. Provide high intensity and bright color light when coloring powder coatings;
2. Excellent heat resistance stability is an important indicator, which prevents color changes caused by thermal decomposition or crystal changes during hot melt extrusion in powder coating preparation, as well as during heating and curing after electrostatic spraying;
3. Good migration resistance in colored powder coatings;
4. Excellent dispersibility during the hot melt extrusion process of powder coating preparation, with uniform dispersion in the film-forming medium and no chemical reaction with curing agents and fillers;
5. The colorant must have a good match with the polarity of the coloring resin, and it is a surface modification for organic pigments to improve their affinity and compatibility with the resin.
